External condition surveys were undertaken this week for the Dunedin City Council.  Heritage Architects, Structural Engineers and a Stonemason consultant were lifted over and around the Dunedin Town Hall and Municipal chambers assessing the building structure. Reports are due soon.

The Shands building is the oldest timber structure remaining in the Christchurch CBD and was located at 88 Hereford street.  Known as Shands Emporium more recently it was built on land owned by John Shands, an English immigrant farmer. The 5 tonne MRI machine was lifted out of level 1 of the Clinical Services Building on Saturday 12th November.   The waiting room, triage and reception of the Emergency Department were temporarily evacuated while the lift took place.  The replacement MRI is due to be lifted into the same space in the next week.
